The Turbulent Flow Fouling device is a single-pass continuous-flow facility that can simulate fouling process in the transitional to turbulent flow regime. This fouling device is able to assess the fouling tendency of a VR in terms of foulant mass and temperature change between reactor skin temperature and liquid bulk temperature with high flexibility utilizing different coking temperatures and pressures, feed types, and run length, while using a moderate feed consuming rate.

Specifications

  • Outer shell – 38 mm (1 ½”) OD tube (3 mm wall thickness)
  • Inner tube – 12 mm rod (with 1/4” hole for thermocouple)
  • Gap between tube and shell: 10 mm
  • Reactor length: 10 inch
  • Furnace – two heating zones controlled separately – Power: 1700 W, heating section: 6 in. Motor: can drive inner tube to spin at max. 3600 RPM @ 60HZ
  • Motor – Max. 3450 RPM with torque measurement

The Turbulator can couple with the horizontal furnace to:

  • increase inlet temperature and reduce furnace load and skin temperatures
  • let the Turbulator mimic different radiant sections by adjusting the horizontal furnace outlet temperature
  • •allow both laminar test and turbulent test on the same unit
